Don't Let CPR Be Forgotten

Don't Let CPR Be Forgotten

Are you aware that only one-half of cardiac arrest victims require the electrical shock or "zap" that makes for compelling drama on television? What all victims need is the much less dramatic, yet no less important, intervention of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). CPR is a vital skill for first responders and trained lay rescuers. Unfortunately, with all the emphasis on the shock, AEDs haven't offered the much-needed guidance and assistance for administering CPR. Until now.

The new ZOLL AED Plus revolutionizes the way cardiac arrest victims are treated. The AED Plus is the only AED to incorporate instantaneous CPR Feedback, providing audio and visual cues to help prevent the two most common errors of CPR: inadequate depth and inadequate rate. The AED Plus delivers voice prompts including "push harder" and "good compression," while its adaptive metronome leads the rescuer to the recommended 100-compressions-per-minute rate.

Surprisingly, most people trained in CPR - even medical pros - may forget the skills they've learned, which can lead to improper or inadequate CPR. Empowering potential rescuers with AEDs
that are easy to use and offer guidance and feedback for CPR
is the best way to help all victims of cardiac arrest.

Ten out of ten victims of sudden cardiac arrest require CPR. Only five of ten require electrical shock. That's why every victim benefits from an AED with CPR Feedback.

Why is there a need for SafetyMate?
In the United States there are approximately 400,000 medical emergencies daily, 60,000,000 injury accidents yearly, and 150,000,000 911 calls annually. SafetyMate™ is designed to help individuals learn the procedures for handling a medical emergency and give them confidence to take appropriate action. Current trends indicate increasing response times of 911 personnel, decreasing numbers of qualified emergency medical personnel and increasing numbers of medical emergencies. The combination of these key indicators leads only to the necessity for individuals to be ready to take action in case of a medical emergency. The presence of SafetyMate provides peace of mind that anyone can be ready to take the necessary life-saving action instantaneously.

What is SafetyMate?
SafetyMate™ is a portable, battery powered electronic product (about the size of a desktop phone), which audibly guides the user through the proper steps in responding to a medical emergency. The product is interactive, and the user simply follows directives or responds to questions by pressing the appropriate button on the product’s keypad. SafetyMate provides a quick and efficient way for anyone to respond to a variety of medical emergency situations. The audible instructions (protocols) in SafetyMate are like those used by 911 operators, the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. SafetyMate has been designed to meet the specific needs and critical demands of both the commercial and consumer personal safety markets.

How does SafetyMate work?
SafetyMate™ incorporates a keypad scheme similar to a typical telephone. The individual buttons are categorically labeled with headings such as Bleeding, Unconscious, CPR, Seizure and more. The product is interactive and the user simply presses the appropriate button on the keypad to start a sequence of questions. The questions are answered by pressing "yes" or "no" on the keypad. For instance, the device may ask, "Is the victim conscious?" and the rescuer responds by depressing "yes" or "no" on the keypad. All of the buttons are clearly labeled. By simply answering each question, the software in the SafetyMate uses a logic tree to guide the rescuer to take critical life-saving action to stabilize the victim until qualified medical help arrives.

Can anyone use SafetyMate?
SafetyMate™ is such a simple design that it can be used by anyone. A keypad is clearly labeled that includes all types of medical emergencies (i.e. Bleeding, Unconscious, CPR, Seizure, etc.). Once a particular type of medical emergency is selected, the device begins to ask a series of yes/no questions one at a time. The student or rescuer answers each question by pressing "yes" or "no" on the keypad. By simply answering each question, the software in the SafetyMate uses a logic tree to guide the rescuer to take critical life-saving action and prepare the victim for qualified emergency medical attention. Although not currently a feature of SafetyMate, the device is capable of programming emergency medical procedures in multiple languages to aid English second language rescuers/victims.

Is SafetyMate designed to handle all types of emergencies?
Yes, SafetyMate™ is designed to handle all types of emergencies through a diversified family of products. SafetyMate has different product models to serve the specific needs of a particular market. For instance, environments that are more likely to experience pediatric (child) emergencies will have a SafetyMate that is programmed to their specific needs. A marine environment will require different software programming compared to the needs of the workplace environment or an elderly environment.

Who should use SafetyMate?
SafetyMate™ is for everyone. SafetyMate provides great assurance during an actual medical emergency that the proper procedures are being followed. The procedures used in the SafetyMate compliment the course content taught by the American Red Cross in their first aid and CPR classes. Participants in this course range from trained emergency response professionals to those individuals who simply desire to meet OSHA requirements on behalf of their employer. SafetyMate is especially applicable to businesses that are required to demonstrate emergency medical preparedness for the welfare of their employees and patrons. Constant re-education is required for individuals to be proficient with the emergency medical response skills and to maintain their certification. SafetyMate offers the opportunity to refresh your skills at any time, in any location, to reinforce the proper procedures and promote preparedness in the case of an actual emergency.

Is SafetyMate available to purchase?
Yes! Give us a call to speak with one of our experienced representatives.

Will I be at risk if I use SafetyMate to assist someone in a medical emergency?
Volunteers acting as a first responder to a medical emergency – with or without SafetyMate - are protected under “Good Samaritan” legislation in their attempts to save a life.

We have a person trained in CPR, isn't that enough?
The American Heart Association Emergency Care Committee has conducted numerous studies that point to the need for on-going education and skills practice sessions to be proficient with first aid and CPR skills. Retention studies show that people trained in CPR forget the procedures as early as 45 days after the training. SafetyMate provides an innovative way for individuals to refresh their skills and knowledge and to be prepared to take action in most medical emergencies.
