AEDPLUS: Your Link to the Chain of Survival

ZOLL AED Plus Chain of Survival The Chain of Survival is a universally recognized sequence of actions that need to be initiated immediately in the event of a medical emergency. A person's chance of survival from cardiac arrest is greater when the following steps in the Chain of Survival occur as rapidly as possible. The Chain of Survival is internationally recognized and taught in all CPR and First Aid courses.

The best way to increase the chance of saving sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) victims is to remember and follow every link in the chain: Early Access, Early CPR, Early Defibrillation, Early Advanced Care. Every step helps save lives. Any break in the Chain compromises survival.

Ordinary AEDs only defibrillate. Rapid defibrillation is a critical intervention to improve survival, but it is not enough. While roughly half of unresponsive, collapsed victims need defibrillation, every one of them needs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Following the Chain of Survival requires more than just attaching electrodes and delivering a shock. From checking responsiveness, summoning help, and doing an "ABC" assessment (Airway, Breathing. Circulation) to CPR and defibrillation, the ZOLL® AED Plus™ with instantaneous CPR Feedback helps guide the rescuer through the entire effort to rescue SCA victims. By focusing on the full Chain of Survival and supporting effective CPR, the ZOLL AED Plus is the first and only Full-Rescue AED.

Chain of Survival: Early Access, Early CPR, Early defibrillation, Early Advanced Care
Early Access refers to recognizing that a cardiovascular emergency exists and immediately notifying EMS. In most communities, calling 911 accesses the EMS system. Early CPR is starting CPR immediately to circulate oxygen-rich blood to vital organs to buy time for the victim until defibrillation can be given. The first step of CPR is the ABC's, checking Airway, Breathing and Circulation

Early Defibrillation refers
to delivering a shock to the patient within 3 to 5 minutes. This is often called the most critical link because defibrillation is the only definitive therapy for ventricular fibrillation.
Early Advanced Care is
EMS arriving quickly to administer advanced lifesaving interventions. This can only occur when step one, Early Access, is completed.
