TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Florida legislators passed a
bill Wednesday that will help more law enforcement
agencies across the state have Automated External
Defibrillators, or AEDs in their vehicles.
An AED is a portable device that's used in conjunction
with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, to save
the life of someone experiencing cardiac arrest.
The AED sends an electric shock through a person's
chest and restores their heartbeat to its normal rhythm.
AEDs usually cost around $1,800. The budget provides
one million dollars from general revenue to the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement to implement the AED
grant program during the 2005-2006 fiscal year. |
