Florida Department of Transportation Purchases Cardiac Science Powerheart(R) AEDs for Safety Patrol Vehicle Fleet

PR Newswire
May 26th, 2005

IRVINE, Calif., May 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cardiac Science Inc. (Nasdaq: DFIB), a leading manufacturer of live-saving automatic public-access defibrillators (AEDs), announced today that Florida's Turnpike Enterprise, a division of the Florida Department of Transportation, has purchased Powerheart(R) AEDs for deployment in the fleet of Safety Patrol trucks.

The placement of the AEDs in the Safety Patrol trucks follows recent deployments of Cardiac Science AEDs in Florida's Turnpike service plazas and headquarters facilities, said Richard Nelson, Director of Business Development and Concessions Management for Florida's Turnpike Enterprise. The AEDs were deployed in the Safety Patrol trucks this week and the drivers have received comprehensive training in their use, Nelson added.

"These Powerheart AEDs are a valuable addition to the vehicles in our Road Ranger program dedicated solely to patrolling the Sawgrass Expressway and Florida's Turnpike mainline and helping motorists in need," Nelson said. "We have worked alongside Cardiac Science to deploy their AEDs, first in our facilities and now in the Safety Patrol vehicles, as well as with the training of the drivers. I feel certain these automatic defibrillators will prove their value in the near future by saving lives either out on our roadways or in our office buildings."

Florida's Turnpike Road Ranger program and the Safety Patrol trucks are sponsored by State Farm. The trucks patrol the Sawgrass Expressway and Florida's Turnpike's 309-mile mainline which extends from Dade City to I-75 in Sumter County, clear debris from the roadway and offer free roadside assistance for stranded motorists.

A press conference related to the AED deployment and other matters focused on the safety along Florida's Turnpike system has been announced by Florida Turnpike Enterprise and will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26 (today) at the Turkey Lake Service Plaza in Orlando.
