REGINA – A 34-year-old hockey player who went
into cardiac arrest on the ice Wednesday night will
have a chance to play again.
That's because of quick action by staff at the Canlan
Ice Sport Jemini arena in Saskatoon – and the
fact the arena had a portable defibrillator on hand.
The man was playing hockey shortly before 7:30 p.m.
when he collapsed and his heart stopped.
Some staff witnessed the incident and wasted no time
grabbing their automated external defibrillator.
The hockey player was shocked once. He regained a
pulse and began breathing.
According to a spokesperson with MD Ambulance Care,
he was conscious and talking while on the way to the
hospital.
The arena is one of 55 businesses in Saskatoon that
have defibrillators on site. |
